Hasslein's theory in which the astronauts age only a few years while the citizens of Earth age centuries, as evidenced by the chronometers that read "Space Time" versus "Earth Time". He and three colleagues, fame-seeker Landon, man of science Dodge and 'future Eve' Stewart, have been in space for six months, having departed in January 1972. The skipper, Taylor speaks of how their ship is traveling 700 years into the future but they are not aging. It begins in a spaceship carrying four passengers.
